TATTOO AFTERCARE

Traditional tattoo aftercare without special film
How to properly treat a tattoo without any special dressings or films? The traditional method of treatment is usually that after the tattoo is made, your tattoo artist applies a special cream and covers it with a plastic wrap (food film) or sprayable (liquid) bandage. After getting a tattoo, it is extremely important to treat the wound (tattoo) properly: clean it and wash it, disinfect and isolate it from the environment. So, if you want to heal a tattoo in the usual, so-called traditional way, follow these instructions:
  • After the tattoo is done, the artist will clean it, wash it and disinfect the tattoo. It will be covered with the plastic wrap or liquid bandage.
  • You should remove the plastic wrap or liquid bandage after 1-3 hours.
  • Wash your hands well with antibacterial soap, remove the plastic wrap or wash off the liquid bandage.
  • Wash the tattoo area with lukewarm water and antibacterial soap (use plain soap without fragrances, etc. Both liquid and solid antibacterial soap are suitable).
  • After washing the tattoo, dry it with a clean disposable paper towel or tissue. Or leave it to dry on it's own.
  • Cover the tattoo with a healing cream prescribed by your tattoo artist. It can be SVR cicavit plus, easy tattoo, inktrox, hustle butter, bepanthen plus or other fatty medical creams from pharmacy. Do not use oils like coconut oil under any circumstances. They do not heal wounds and they are not medically suited to heal the wounds (tattoo) properly!
  • You should apply a thin layer of the cream. Do not add the cream in huge ounces. Gently massage the cream into the skin.
  • After getting the tattoo done you should take care of it for atleast 2-3 weeks. You should apply the cream to your tattoo every 2-3 hours everyday. The most important thing is not to let your tattoo go dry! If you let your wound (tattoo) get dry - scabs will form. There should be no scabbing while healing a wound (tattoo). The scab makes healing difficult and the wound under the scab does not heal. Therefore, it is very important that the tattoo is moisturized every 2-3 hours. In hot weather, with a lot of sweating or drier skin, you may need to moisturize more often. Do not let the skin "shrink" and dry out, monitor the skin.
  • Before each application of the cream, wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap and water.
  • After a while, your tattoo will begin to peel off in a thin skin like from a sunburn (not scabs, scabs are hard and dry). It will look like thin skin flakes.
  • Do not pick, scratch, peel, or otherwise damage the tattoo area during the entire healing period. Wear clean (natural fabric) loose clothing that will not rub it. Protect the tattoo from dirt, pet hair, dust, sweat. Do not touch the tattoo with dirty hands.
  • During the entire healing period - 2-3 weeks, it is strictly forbidden to: soak in the bath, go to saunas or swimming pools, go to lakes/rivers or any water sources, do sports or perform active activities. Avoid factors that can cause you to sweat a lot or cause your skin to move and stretch a lot. For two months, the tattoo must be protected from direct sunlight (for exampl.: don't go sunbathing) and do not visit solariums. When in the sun - use a sunscreen with SPF 50.
  • A short shower is possible during the healing period.
  • The tattoo may itch - this is completely normal, but it should not be scratched or picked. Relieve the itching with a light tap or by washing with soap and water and a napkin.
Tattoo care is the customer's responsibility! Properly taking care of your tattoo will ensure that your tattoo is in it's best condition. You will immediately see how the tattoo artist finished your tattoo and how it looks. If something is done badly on the part of the tattoo artist, it will be seen immediately, especially if the ink is sttled too deep into the skin, it will blow out immediately, not later. How it looks after healing - is entirely up to you.
Healing is influenced by many factors: your body's reaction, tattoo aftercare, immune system, hygiene, skin, sleep, amount of vitamins and drinking water.
It is normal for the tattoo to be swollen, tender, slightly painful or red for a few days after it is done. If you notice any skin reaction or complications, contact your tattoo artist or doctor immediately.
The tattoo settles completely in about 2 - 4 months. Heals in about 2 -3 weeks. After those two weeks, the tattoo may still be shiny and scratchy, as the skin layer changes. This is completely normal, it settles later.
Tattoo aftercare with special film dressing (seconds skin)
This care instruction applies only to the tattoos that are applied with a special film dressing (second skin) that isolates the tattoo from the environment (it is not a food/ plastic film).
  • After the tattoo is finished, a special film dressing will be applied to your tattoo. It is breathable and elastic, creating a moist wound healing process. You have to be with the film dressing for 3-5 days (unless your tattoo artist specified different time period). 5 days are the maximum period of holding the second skin (depending on the film's manifacturer)
  • After 5 days remove the second skin (or after a different time period if your tattoo artist specified it): wash your hands with antibacterial soap, remove the film and wash the tattoo area with antibacterial soap and warm water.
  • Gently massage the tattoo area with soap to thoroughly wash off the ink and plasma particles.
  • After washing the tattoo, dry it with a clean disposable paper towel.
  • Apply the healing cream prescribed by your tattoo artist (Bepanthen Plus, Easy Tattoo, SVR cicavit, etc.) to the tattoo.
  • The tattoo area will need to be moisturized for another 7-15 days, approximately every 2-3 hours. Do not dry out the tattoo, but do not apply a thick layer of cream either. In hot weather or drier skin, the tattoo is more difficult to maintain, so apply more often if necessary. Always massage the cream. After a while, the tattoo will begin to peel off with a thin layer of skin like from a sunburn - thin skin flakes (not scabs, scabs are hard and dry - they can't form).
  • Do not scratch, rub, or pick at the tattoo while it is healing.
  • During the healing of the tattoo, wear loose and comfortable clothes (natural fabric) that will not rub the tattoo. During the entire healing period, keep it away from dirt, sweat, pet hair, dust and do not touch it with dirty hands. While with the film and after removing the film, a quick but not hot shower is possible.
  • During the healing period, IT IS PROHIBITED:
  • Soaking in water (in the bath, swimming pool and various water resources), playing sports or performing active activities, going to saunas and solariums, scratching or exfoliating a tattoo, sunbathing or being in direct sunlight.

IMPORTANT! Do not remove the film ahead of time without the artist's permission.
Under the film, ink and blood plasma might be seen - do not be alarmed, this is completely normal. However, it is important to send photos to your artist everyday and follow the healing process correctly.
Always send a photo to the artist the other day after the tattoo is done, the day you remove the film and a week later.
The film may wrinkle and begin to "pull"/dry - this is normal. If you notice any skin reaction or complications - immediately contact your tattoo artist or consult a specialist, a dermatologist.
After the tattoo has healed, you should avoid direct sunlight and solariums for 2 months.
Use a 50 SPF sunscreen when in outdoors. The care and treatment of the tattoo is the client's responsibility - how you heal it , that is how you are gonna have it.
Healing is influenced by many factors: your body's reaction, care, immune system, hygiene, sleep, vitamins and drinking water.

THIS IS HOW CORRECT AFTERCARE LOOKS LIKE

This is how your tattoo should look like after some time. You can see thin skin flakes coming out without any scabbing.

THIS IS HOW THE BAD AFTERCARE LOOKS LIKE

The skin is very dry and it might be very itchy or iritating. A hard scab has formed, this happens when the skin is not moisturized enough or rubbed with clothing or any other harsh material.
